Writing the Museums Project

Every other moment of my time right now is spent writing up the 10-year project I’ve been involved with. The project looked at the representation and engagement of First Nations’ Peoples and Communities across museums of national significance. I visited 470+ museums, and spoke to an enormous amount of people who work in and with them. I found out a lot. I’ve published on this a fair bit, and presented on this a lot, but the book and the other work that is happening (in the form of a website) is a more comprehensive assessment of the whole project.

Creative Barkly

Creative Barkly is an ARC Linkage research project looking at arts and creativity across the Barkly Region, one of the most remote communities in the country now known as Australia. Our aim has been to understand how artistic and creative activities contribute to cultural, social and economic development in Barkly communities and the region as a whole. With a very large Aboriginal population working across the arts, a major part of my participation has been to consider the cultural and systemic implications of sustainable professional arts and creative practice for First Nations’ Peoples in the region. The full (300+ page) report is available, and we are currently in the process of focused area write-up to scholarly journals.
